Performance by School (Student Details)

The Performance by School student details page shows you the individual students behind the numbers on the Performance by School widget. When you click a data point on the widget, this page opens with the relevant students already in view, so you can review their performance, usage, and placement status at a glance. Available data views include:

  • School name or student count — All students in that school. No additional filters are applied.

  • A performance band (Far Below, Below, On/Above) — Only students in that specific band for the school. The Performance filter reflects your selection.

  • The IP count — Only students currently in Initial Placement. The IP Status filter reflects your selection.

The student count at the top of the page matches the count from the data point you clicked.

If you clicked a data point with a count of 0, the page displays "No data to display" rather than an empty table.

Viewing Data by Subject

The Performance by School widget has separate tabs for Math and Reading. Clicking a data point on a subject tab opens the Performance by School student details page filtered to that subject.

To view the other subject, return to the Admin Dashboard and select the other tab before clicking a data point. There is no way to switch subjects directly from the Performance by School student details page.

The Data at a Glance

  • Student Name — The student's full name. When two students share the same first and last name, their username is also displayed so you can tell them apart.

  • Grade — The student's enrolled grade level.

  • IP Status — Initial Placement status:

  • "In IP" — the student is still completing initial placement

  • "Complete" — initial placement is finished

  • Usage This Week — The student's usage for the current week.

  • Usage (Goal) — Reflects whether a student is on pace to meet their assigned time-in-course target by the goal end date. Status is based on the student's average time per week over the most recent four weeks compared to the pace needed to reach their target hours. Math — 31 hours; Reading — 28 hours. Usage Goal Status only appears for students who have completed Initial Placement and have at least 2 sessions, 7 days, and 20 minutes in the course.

    • On Track — Student is projected to meet their goal

    • Watch Closely — Student may fall short; early-year data may still be limited

    • Falling Behind — Student is unlikely to meet their goal without interventionUsage Goal Status only appears for students who have completed Initial Placement and have at least 2 sessions, 7 days, and 20 minutes in the course.

  • Current Level — The student's current working course level in SuccessMaker.

  • Gain — A metric representing the student's progress since completing initial placement.

  • Performance — The student's performance band: Far Below, Below, or On/Above.

How IP Status Affects Other Data on this page

When a student is still in Initial Placement ("In IP"), their Gain and Performance columns also show "In IP" because those metrics are not yet meaningful — they require a completed placement baseline.

Once IP Status shows "Complete," Gain and Performance display the student's actual values.

Which Students are included:

  • Only students with at least one SuccessMaker session in a Full Course (Default or Custom by Settings) are included.

  • If a student has multiple of these assignment types, only the assignment with the most recent usage is represented. Each student appears at most once — there are no duplicate rows.

Sorting Your Data

You can sort the Student Details table by any column to organize the data for your review:

  • Click a column header to sort ascending; click again for descending

  • A sort indicator in the header shows the current direction

  • Only one column can be sorted at a time

When students have the same value in the sorted column, they are further ordered by Student Name (alphabetically), then by Student Username.

Your sort order is preserved when you change filters — the updated results appear in the same sort order you selected. Sorting does not change your filter selections or the number of students shown.

Sorting applies to the entire data set, including any students on other pages (if pagination is active).

Narrowing your view with Filters

Two controls are always visible at the top:

  • School — A dropdown to switch between schools

  • Find Student — A text search to locate a student by name

Additional filters are inside a collapsible "Filters" section:

  • Grade

  • Teacher

  • Group

  • IP Status

  • Usage

  • Performance

The Filters section is collapsed by default. When collapsed, a summary label shows your current filter selections.

How Your Initial View is Set

When you arrive from the Performance by School widget, your view is already filtered based on what you clicked. All other filters start at "All," meaning no additional restrictions are applied. You can further refine from there.

How Filters Affect Each Other

  • Selecting a Grade updates your list of Teachers and Groups.

  • Change the Teacher resets your Group selection.

  • Teacher and Group reset to "All" when you change Grade.

  • Group, IP Status, Usage, and Performance always show their full set of options

Find Student:

  • Searching for a student by name further narrows your current filtered results.

  • It does not affect any filter option lists.

  • Clearing the search (clicking X) returns you to filter-only results.

Grade Options

The list of grades available in the Grade filter is determined by the students in the selected school's data set. It does not change based on other filter selections. For example, if a school has students in grades K-5, all those grades remain available even if your Teacher or Group filters would narrow the results to fewer grades.

Ungrouped Students

The Group filter includes an "Ungrouped" option. This represents students who have at least one active assignment but are not members of any group. Ungrouped students do not have a teacher association (since teacher is determined through group membership).

Teachers and Co-Teachers

If a student is associated with multiple teachers (through multiple groups or co-teacher arrangements), that student appears when any of those teachers are selected. Each student still appears only once in the results — no duplicate rows.

Resetting your View

Changing School: When you select a different school, all filters reset to their defaults ("All"). The Grade options update to match the new school and the teacher and groups list update for the selected organization. The Filters section stays open or collapsed based on its current state.

Reset Button: Inside the Filters section, a "Reset" button clears all filters to their default state, showing all students for the selected school. The reset applies immediately.

When No Students Match Your Selection

If your combination of filters produces no matching students, the page displays: "No results found. Please try another search."

You can adjust your filters or use the Reset button to start over.

Exporting Your Data

You can export the current view to a CSV file for offline analysis or sharing:

  • Click the export button at the top of the page (next to "Learn more about the data")

  • The export includes exactly the students and columns currently shown — all filters, search terms, and sort order are reflected

  • If there are multiple pages of results, all pages are included in the export (not just the page currently visible)

Navigating back to the Dashboard

  • A breadcrumb link at the top of the page returns you to the Admin Dashboard.

  • The browser back button also works.

  • When you return, your dashboard resets the organization list to include all organizations in your administrative scope.

If you access the Performance by School student details page directly (for example, from a bookmark or shared link), the page will default to the first school in your list and all of the filters will be set to “all”. The default subject will be “Math”, unless your organization only has Reading. To change the subject, you will need to navigate to the Dashboard and choose the appropriate subject tab.
