Create, Assign, and Delete an Assignment
As an administrator, you can create and assign an assignment by selecting a content item in the Browse tab and pressing the Assign button. You can also delete an assignment you made from the assignment listing page.
Once you've created and assigned an assignment to a class, the class instructor can edit the assignment. Instructors can change the start date and the due date, the title, and the instructions, as well as add additional classes. Edits made by the instructor apply only to that instructor's classes.
Create and Assign an Assignment
The process of creating and assigning an assignment is broken down into a four-step procedure, which you can follow below:
-
You first need to add assignment details. Begin by entering the assignment title and the assignment's start and end dates. You can select the time of day that students can access the assignment. Should you choose to set time of day access, you'll be prompted to select the time that students can access the assignment. When finished, press Next. Press Cancel to quit creating the assignment.
If a student has the assignment open when the end time is reached, that student can continue to work; however, if a student tries to open the assignment outside of the access time period, the student will see a pop-up notifying them that the access time period has closed. The access time period will always be visible to the student on their list of assignments.
Students cannot access assignments over the weekend if the time of day access option is selected.
-
Next, customize settings for this assignment. Choose any of the following options:
-
Allow students to access test questions after submission: Select if you want students to be able to access test questions after they've submitted their assignment.
-
Set student time of day access: Select if you want students to access the assignment during a specific time of day. You'll be prompted to choose an access starting period and ending period.
If you're assigning a Momentum screener assignment, you'll see an option to automatically assign diagnostic assessments based on screener results. You can choose separate start and end dates for the screener and the diagnostic. The teacher will see a new assignment in their assignment listing page for each new diagnostic assessment automatically created, but you will only see the screener assignment on the assignment listing page. When each student completes the screener assessment, each student will automatically receive the correct diagnostic assessment based on their screener results. If the start date hasn't passed and you need to edit these settings, you can change the setting to automatically assign diagnostic assessments with the screener and that setting will be saved.
When finished, press Next, or press Back to return to the previous section. Press Cancel to quit creating the assignment.
-
-
Assign the assignment to students in categories. You can do this based on grade level, school, and class:
-
Grade Level: Select the grade levels you'd like to assign the assignment to. You can select or de-select any or all grade levels. The grade levels listed are all grade levels that use the content item you initially selected. If a grade level is not listed, then that grade level does not use the content item. When finished selecting grade levels, press Next.
-
Schools: Select the school or schools you'd like to assign the assignment to. You can select or de-select any or all schools listed. If a school has a grade level with classes that contain the content item and that grade is selected, then the school is included in the list. If a school has grade levels you previously selected, but those grade levels do not use the content item you're assigning from, then that school won't be listed.
For example, Johnny Appleseed Elementary School has third grade classes. At least one third grade class uses a math content item from which you'd like to choose an assignment. When choosing grade levels, you choose third grade. When you go to select schools, Johnny Appleseed Elementary School is listed. This is because you chose the third grade level, and a third grade class in Johnny Appleseed Elementary School uses the content item that you're assigning. Meanwhile, Ben Franklin Elementary School has third grade classes that don't use the math content item. When you go to select schools, Ben Franklin Elementary School isn't listed because none of the third grade class use that content item.
-
Classes: Select the class or classes you'd like to assign the assignment to. You can select or de-select any or all classes listed. The classes listed all use the content item that you're assigning.
When finished, press Next, or press Back to return to the previous section. Press Cancel to quit creating the assignment.
The Grade Level, Schools, and Classes list that you'll receive are based on the classes that the program is in. If you can’t find a grade, school, or class; it’s possible that the program simply hasn’t been added to a class yet.
Google Classroom™ classes are represented by a Google Classroom™ icon for both linked and imported classes.

Finally, you can review the details you selected in the previous steps. When you're ready to submit the assignment, press Assign. You can also press Back to return to the previous steps and make changes, or press Cancel to quit creating the assignment altogether.
You've now created and assigned an assignment.
