Realize Reader Annotations and Highlights

You can highlight and annotate content, such as questions, key concepts, and data points during your close reading exercises. Select a word, sentence, paragraph, image, glossary term, or hyperlink, and then choose from a variety of highlighting styles and colors.

Once you've added a highlight or annotation, you can add a comment and create a comment thread that you and your teacher can continue to use to discuss the specific content. You can also listen to the text read aloud and translated for some textbooks.

Move the Realize Reader Toolbox

You can move Realize Reader modal by selecting the four horizontal lines at the top of the toolbox and dragging it across the screen.

Add a Highlight

  1. Select the text or image you want to highlight.
  2. Choose a highlighting style and color.
  3. Select Save.
  4. Select the close icon when you're finished.

Add an Annotation

  1. Select the text or image you want to annotate.
  2. Choose a highlighting style and color.
  3. Enter up to 1,000 characters for your annotation in the text editor box.
  4. Select Save. An annotation marker displays beside your highlighted text.
  5. Select the close icon when you're finished.

You can copy and paste selected text using the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl + C (copy) and Ctrl + V (paste).

Edit a Highlight or Annotation

  1. Find and select the highlight or annotation you want to change.
  2. Choose a different highlighting style and color.
  3. Edit the annotation text in the text editor box.
  4. Select Save.
  5. Select the close icon when you're finished.

Delete a Highlight or Annotation

When you delete a highlight or annotation, any associated comments are also deleted.

  1. Find and select the highlight or annotation you want to delete.
  2. Select Delete.
  3. In the Delete Confirmation, choose Yes to confirm the deletion or choose Cancel.

Find and View Annotations and Highlights

When you're working in a Realize Reader Selected ReadingClosed Realize Reader Selected Reading (RRSR) opens in a new window that displays the entire book and enables the completion of the activities using the full set of Realize Reader tools and navigation features. assignment, you can find all the annotations and highlights in your book using the Annotation & Highlights menu selection.

This feature is not available in Realize Reader SelectionClosed Realize Reader Selection (RRS) assignments open directly in Realize and focus on the specific text and features required to complete the assigned activities. assignments.

  1. Select Menu in the top menu bar.

  2. In the Menu panel, choose Annotations & Highlights to view a list all your highlights and annotations.
  3. In the Highlights panel, you can:
    • Sort the list By TOC, By Date, or By Style.
    • Export your highlights.
    • Select an annotation or highlight to open the page where the highlight is located.
  4. To return to the full-page mode of the reading pane, select the close icon Close icon. in Highlights panel, and then select the close icon in the Menu panel.

Listen to the Text Read Aloud

By selecting the Text to Speech button in the toolbox, you can listen to selected text read aloud for some textbooks.

Not every textbook will have the option to have text read aloud.

  1. Find and select the text you'd like to have read aloud.

  2. Select the Text to Speech button in the toolbox.

The text will read aloud what you have selected.

Translate Selected Text

By select the Translate button in the toolbox, you can listen to selected text translated and read aloud for some textbooks.

Not every textbook will have the option to have text translated.

  1. Find and select the text you'd like to have read aloud.

  2. Select the Translate button in the toolbox.

The text will translate and read aloud what you have selected.
