Performance by School

The Performance by School section of your Admin Dashboard gives you a centralized view of how students across your schools are performing in SuccessMaker. It shows total counts and performance breakdowns by school, so you can quickly identify where students may need additional support.

  • A Math/Reading toggle at the top scopes the data to the selected subject. If your organization licenses only one subject, that subject appears as the default tab.

  • The academic year date range (top right), set by the district administrator, is essential for interpreting performance data. A student's rating (Far Below, Below, or On/Above) indicates their progress relative to the expected level for this point in the school year. If this date range is missing, an alert will prompt the district administrator to update it.

  • This section is visible only to admins whose schools have SuccessMaker Classic course licensing. If your organization does not have these licenses, the widget will not appear.

  • Performance Band Legend:

    • Performance is measured by comparing a student's current course level to their expected level — the target learning trajectory at this point in the school year based on their grade and how far into the academic year they are.

Because expected level increases as the year progresses, a student's performance band may shift over time even if their course level stays the same.

  • On/Above — The student's current course level is at or above the expected level for this point in the school year.

  • Below — The student's current course level is within one level below the expected level.

  • Far Below — The student's current course level is more than one level below the expected level.

The Data at a Glance

The Overall row is pinned at the top of the table and shows totals across all schools in your view. This gives you a quick summary before reviewing individual schools. The Overall row is for reference only — its values are not clickable. This row performs a unique student count across the scope of organizations, meaning a student enrolled in two schools is counted only once in the Overall row.

  • Organization — The name of each school in your administrative scope. District admins see all schools; school admins see only their school(s).

  • Students — The number of students with at least one SuccessMaker session in a Full Course assignment (Default or Custom by Settings). Students who do not have an assignment or have not yet initiated a session are not included.

  • Initial Placement (IP) — The count of students currently in Initial Placement. Initial Placement is the assessment period when SuccessMaker determines a student's starting level. Once complete, performance and gain metrics become available and students are then represented in the Performance band columns.

Performance Bands

• Once IP is complete, students are included in the Far Below, Below, and On/Above columns described above.

• Percentages are displayed alongside the Far Below, Below, and On/Above counts. These represent the proportion of students in each band relative to students who have completed Initial Placement. Students currently with "In IP" status are excluded from these percentage calculations to ensure metric accuracy.

• Performance Breakdown — A visual bar showing the proportion of students in each performance band for that school, so you can see the distribution at a glance. The proportion of students in IP is not included.

Drilling Into Performance by School Student Details

The table has three types of interactive behavior, with a hand cursor indicating when hover or click interaction is available:

  • Column headers — Click to sort ascending or descending. A sort indicator shows the current direction.

  • Data values — Click to navigate to the Performance by School student details page, filtered to the students behind that number.

  • Performance Breakdown bar — Not clickable, but hover to see the count for each color-coded performance band.

What You'll See in Student Details:

  • School name — See all students in that school.

  • Student count — See all students in that school.

  • Far Below, Below, or On/Above count — See only students in that performance band for that school.

  • IP count — See only students currently in Initial Placement for that school.

When a count is 0, clicking it still navigates to the Student Details page with a "No data to display" message.
