Build a Test Writing Your Own Questions

You can create a custom test with your own test questions but not all options listed here are available for all programs. Question types include:

  • Multiple choice—students must select one answer choice from a predetermined list. The test item will default to four answer choices, but you can add or remove item answers.

  • Gridded response—students choose their own answer by filling in the grid rather than choosing an answer from a pre-defined list.

  1. Choose to build your test from My Library.
  2. On the Build a test page, enter the test Title and Description, and then select a program.

  3. Below Do you want this test to count toward standards progress?, choose Yes or No.
  4. If prompted with an option for using a bank of questions or writing your own, select Write my own questions.
  5. Select the number of times the student may try to answer each question and retake the test, and then click Next.
  6. Click Add question, and then do one of the following for each question you add:
  1. Enter the question text in the Question box.
    • Use the editing toolbar to add bold, italic, or underline formatting.
    • Click the image icon to add an image to the question.
  2. For each possible answer, enter the answer content, and add or remove any extra answer boxes as needed.
    • Use the editing toolbar to add bold, italic, or underline formatting.
    • Click the image icon to add an image to the question.
  3. Select which of the answers is the correct answer, and then click Save.

  2. Select the number of Columns needed for the answer.
  3. Select a Decimal option:
    • none—The answer does not contain a decimal.
    • floating—The answer may contain a decimal and the student must select the decimal location as part of their answer.
    • fixed—The answer does contain a decimal with a fixed location. You must select the decimal location in the #. field.
  4. Select whether the answer may include a Positive/Negative number.
  5. Enter the correct answer in the answer boxes, select the corresponding number in each column, and then click Save.

The ability to print tests and answer keys is dependent upon a program's assessment and may not be available for some programs.

Click Print on the top of the page and select to print the test and/or the answer key. The test or answer key will queue to the printer.

  1. Click Rearrange on the top of the page, then click and drag the test questions to reorder them.

  2. Click Done to save your changes, or click the back arrow to reset the test to its original order.

  3. Click the go back arrow on the top left of the page to return to the test.

  4. Click Done.

  1. Click Preview on the top of the page.

  2. When you are done previewing the test, Exit to return to the edit page.

  1. When finished, click Save.

You can easily assign your custom tests from My Library.
